PINELLAS COUNTY - The Pow Wow Festival, Family FunFest, a World War II Salute, A Day in the Park, Spa Beach Splash, a Mutt Strut and the Corona Light Big Shot Series volleyball tournament are just a few highlights of the many events happening this weekend.
Clearwater Beach • Top players in the Corona Light Big Shot Series will hit Clearwater Beach, near 430 S. Gulfview Blvd., for the spring volleyball championships on Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13. The public can meet the players at Shephard's, 619 S. Dunedin • The Humane Society of Pinellas will have its 13th Annual Mutt Strut dog walk on Saturday, March 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Honeymoon Island State Park. The Mutt Strut is popular with the local dog crowd. The event promotes the activities of the HSP while providing a fun and relaxing environment for hundreds of pet lovers and their dogs. Madeira Beach • The Kiwanis Club of Gulf Beaches will have its Family FunFest, Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, March 13, noon to 6 p.m. A $5 gate fee ($20 maximum per family) covers all activities. Seminole • The Seminole Pow Wow Festival will begin at the Seminole Recreation Complex, Friday evening, March 11, with one-price armbands available for Midway rides, games and entertainment. The fun will continue Saturday, with the Pow Wow Parade at 10 a.m. and the festival continuing throughout the day, ending with fireworks at 8:45 p.m. Click here for details.
St. Petersburg • The Spa Beach Splash at the Pier Aquarium will offer a free family fun discovery day on Saturday, March 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the St. Petersburg Pier.
Kids and parents will be armed with discovery buckets, nets and everything needed to explore the ocean environment. Activities will include hunting snails, making prints from fish, learning about turtle nesting, birds of prey and seashore archeology and making shark tooth jewelry. Guides will be education staffers from the Pier Aquarium, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Boyd Hill Nature Park and Great Exploration.
From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. a flea market will be open at Spa Park. Admission is $1, and vendors will offer nautical items and products.
