Longoria keeps lead in All-Star voting

Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria continues to hold the top position with the most All-Star votes in the American League.
In the latest count, released Tuesday, June 16, Longoria was ahead of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter by 35,612 votes - 13,328 less than last week. Longoria vote count stands at 1,957,380 to Jeter with 1,921,768.
Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett held on to his second place position but needs more than a million votes to catch up to Jeter.
Carl Crawford remained fourth place among outfielders with 902,105 votes.
Fans can vote for their favorite Rays players 25 times per e-mail address. Vote online at MLB.com. Voting ends on at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 2.
The 2009 American League and National League All-Star teams will be announced on Sunday, July 5, on the 2009 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show, televised nationally on TBS.
Each league team will have eight starters selected by their fans. Another 23 players will be selected as reserves. The reserves will be picked using a combination of player ballots and selections made by the two All-Star team managers - Joe Maddon of the Rays and Charlie Manuel of the Phillies in conjunction with MLB.
The final round of voting is scheduled at MLB.com from July 5 to 9 to pick the final players for each league’s 32-man roster. During the final round, fans will to cast their votes from a list of five players from each league.
The 80th All-Star Game takes place on July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
