Tropical Storm Emily formed west of Tampa Bay early Monday morning. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the west coast of Florida from Anclote River southward to Bonita Beach.
At 8 a.m., Emily was located about 45 miles west-southwest of Tampa and 50 miles west-northwest of Sarasota. The storm was moving east at 8 mph. Maximum sustained winds were 45 mph.
On the forecast track, the center of Emily is expected to move inland over the west-central Florida peninsula later today and move across central Florida through the night. Emily is expected to move offshore the east-central coast early Tuesday.
Little change in strength is expected until landfall occurs this afternoon. Emily should weaken to a tropical depression this afternoon.
Tropical storm force winds outward up to 60 miles from the center.
Pinellas County is under a flood watch. Rainfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches is expected through tonight in the Tampa Bay area and tropical storm conditions are likely through this afternoon. Conditions are somewhat favorable for tornadoes. Winds of 10-15 mph are possible with gusts up to 20 mph.
