PINELLAS COUNTY - Monday's 5 a.m. report from the National Weather Service's Hurricane Center shows that Hurricane Ivan, still a category 5 storm, is moving westward, and Tampa Bay has been taken out of the projected path.
Ivan is now expected to make landfall perhaps somewhere near the border of Alabama or in Florida's panhandle early on Thursday.
Residents are urged to continue to monitor the storm. The county will remain under a state of emergency until Sept. 17.
Pinellas County schools will remain closed on Monday. All Pinellas County offices, with the exception of the Courts, are open. A hotline regarding judicial proceedings is in operation. Call 464-4470.
