PINELLAS COUNTY - Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, was set aside as a day for Americans to honor the men and women who have served this country while it was at war. A variety of activities are planned. The list of events is as follows.
2004 Pinellas Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony
SEMINOLE - The city in association with the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council and the St. Petersburg College will host the 2004 Pinellas Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony, Thursday, Nov. 11. The parade formation will start at 8 a.m. on 80th Avenue, just north of Seminole Mall. The parade will step off between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. and go north on 113th Street. The formal ceremony at 11 a.m. will be at the new library located at the St. Petersburg College on 113th Street next to the Seminole Recreation Center. All civic and veterans organizations are invited to attend and take part in this gala event. Many floats and marching units will be taking part in the parade. Many of the local active duty military branches also will take part. The guest speaker for the formal Veteran's Day ceremony will be retired Army Maj. Gen. David Hicks. Veterans Day Ceremony
LARGO - The city will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at the James S. Miles/Richard A. Leandri Military Court of Honor at Largo Central Park on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The ceremony will include a keynote speaker, presentation of the colors and music. The Suncoast Vietnam Veterans of Pinellas County will feature "The Last Patrol." The city and the Pinellas County Veterans Liaison Council are presenting this event. Veterans Day blood drive
PINELLAS COUNTY - Realizing that many veterans are in need of blood transfusions, Tampa Bay's MIX 100.7 FM will pay them tribute on Thursday, Nov. 11, by hosting a blood drive. Florida Blood Services donor services will have extended hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations: Largo - 11401 Belcher Road, in Baxter Healthcare; Clearwater - 1680 S. Missouri Ave.; and St. Petersburg - 10100 Dr. M.L. King Jr. St. N. and 1700 66th St. N. All lifesaving donors will receive an "American Blood Donor" T-shirt, a wellness checkup of blood pressure, temperature, pulse and iron count, including a cholesterol screening, a free ticket to the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg and a coupon for a free pint of Blue Bell Homemade ice cream. 'Preserving Our Nation's Memories'
ST. PETERSBURG - The city of St. Petersburg Sunshine Senior Center will host "Preserving Our Nation's Memories," on Thursday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m., at the center. The event will celebrate the grand celebration for the premier video screening of a project about 23 veterans and war workers from our local community interviewed by students at North Shore Elementary School. The stories now are published, the interviews are edited and the video recording is complete. The event is free and open to the public. The center is at 330 Fifth St. N.
