LARGO – Tom Germond, former assistant editor of the Osceola News-Gazette in Kissimmee, began work Monday as executive editor of Tampa Bay Newspapers.
According to Publisher Dan Autrey, Germond will oversee all editorial operations of the newspapers, including the Beach Beacon, Belleair Bee, Clearwater Citizen, Largo Leader, Seminole Beacon and Entertainment Extra.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to join Tampa Bay Newspapers and be a part of a great team,” Germond said. “I look forward to working with the editorial staff and serving our readers.”
Germond, 50, said he worked for Autrey, former publisher of the News-Gazette, for more than a decade.
“I appreciate the chance to join Dan again in this competitive market, and I’m thrilled to move to this great area. West Coast sunsets aren’t too hard on the eyes,” Germond said.
Germond was on the staff of the Gazette for 22 years, where he edited stories, wrote editorials and columns and helped run the newsroom.
He has worked for newspapers in Florida for nearly 28 years, including the Winter Haven News-Chief, Vero Beach Press-Journal and News-Gazette.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida in 1977.
A native of Superior, Wis., Germond has lived in Florida since 1962. He is single and lives in Seminole.
“I hope to be visible in the community,” Germond said. “I enjoy meeting people of all walks of life and listening to their concerns.”
