Pinellas County Utilities hosts hazardous waste collection
Article published on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 |
PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County Utilities is hosting two hazardous waste mobile collection events in north county. The first is on Saturday, Jan. 26, at East Lake High School; and the second is at Dunedin High School on Saturday, Feb. 2. Hours for both collections are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
County residents may get rid of household hazardous waste during these events. Hazardous waste items should never be put in the trash can since they have the potential to contaminate the ground, air and surface water when they end up in a landfill. Hazardous waste items include everyday things like fluorescent light bulbs, cleaners, computers, TVs, printers, ink cartridges and rechargeable household batteries. They also include items such as pesticides, paints, paint thinners, fertilizers, automotive fluids and more.
Pinellas County Utilities offers this service free to county residents. Businesses should arrange for drop-off and payment by calling EQ Florida Inc. at 813-319-3400 for chemicals, or Creative Recycling Systems Inc. at 813-621-2319 for electronics.
Dunedin High School is at 1651 Pinehurst Road, Dunedin. East Lake High School is at 1300 Silver Eagle Drive, Clearwater.
For disposal questions and more information on mobile collections or the permanent HEC3 location, call 727-464-7500 or visit www.pinellascounty.org/utilities.
