In August 2013, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County opened a satellite Vital Statistics office at its health department in St. Petersburg to serve the community. That satellite office closed Dec. 31.
However, birth records now are available at the Tax Collector's Office at 1800 66th St. N., St. Petersburg. Additional Tax Collector's Office locations will follow later in 2014.
"We always strive to provide excellent service to the community and we are happy to be partnering with the Tax Collector's Office, which also places a high emphasis on customer service," said Dr. Claude M. Dharamraj, DOH-Pinellas' Director.
Since birth records are needed to procure and renew driver licenses, the partnership between DOH-Pinellas and the Tax Collector's Office makes the process easier for the community. Instead of making two trips or waiting for birth records to arrive by mail, residents will be able to complete both transactions at the same Tax Collector's Office.
"I am pleased to announce our partnership with the Department of Health to provide this service to our residents," said Pinellas County Tax Collector Diane Nelson. "We're always looking for ways to add convenience to our office, and this allows customers who need a birth certificate to avoid another trip to a different office."
Vital Statistics is located at DOH-Pinellas' Mid-County Health Department, 8751 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Birth records purchased there are $13; the Tax Collector's Office will add a $6.25 fee for records purchased at its office.
