County Commission names 2006 chairman and vice chairman

Ronnie Duncan
PINELLAS COUNTY - Kenneth T. Welch was sworn in as the Chairman of the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners at the Tuesday, Jan. 10 commission meeting. Ronnie Duncan will serve as vice chairman. Both terms are effective for the 2006 calendar year.

Welch, who represents District 7, was first elected to the County Commission in 2000.

He was re-elected to the Commission in November 2004, and served as Commission Vice Chairman in 2005. Welch was born in St. Petersburg and attended local schools, graduating from Lakewood Senior High School in 1981. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of South Florida, and a master's degree in business administration from Florida A&M University. Commissioner Welch's corporate work experience includes 14 years as a Disbursements Auditor, Senior Financial Accountant, and Financial Systems Administrator for Florida Power Corporation.

Duncan has served as County Commissioner of District 1 since 2004. He previously served as a governing board member of the Southwest Florida Water Management District and was appointed by Gov. Bush as a member of the Coastal High Hazard Study Committee. He served as chairman of the Pinellas County Historic Preservation Task Force. Duncan earned his master's degree in real estate and urban planning and his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Georgia. He is a licensed real estate broker. He is the founder and president of The Duncan Companies Inc., a Tampa Bay based commercial real estate firm with offices in Plantation, Boca Raton and Atlanta.
