Business Development Center to offer free seminars

PINELLAS COUNTY – The Pinellas County Business Development Center offers business training, counseling, referrals and resources at no cost. Scheduled seminars follow:
• The Florida Medical Manufacturers’ Consortium will provide an opportunity to discuss matters important to the medical manufacturing industry with elected officials. FMMC’s Annual Legislative Roundtable will be on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Registration and networking begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the meeting at 8, at the Holiday Inn Select, 3535 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater.
Concern about the high cost of health care, making manufacturing equipment exempt from sales and use tax, and having the education system funded and held accountable for educating the workforce for the medical manufacturing industry will be discussed.
• How to finance a business that is booming and how to expand or relocate also will be covered. Industrial Revenue Bonds are tax-free, below-market-rate, long-term financing of fixed assets for qualified manufacturing and 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. IRBs can be issued by Pinellas County on behalf of private companies to finance land, building and equipment purchases. The minimum project size is $1 million with a $10 million maximum. • Sponsored by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce’s Committee of One Hundred, in partnership with Pinellas County Economic Development, an international exchange, Barranquilla, Columbia Inbound Mission, will be from Wednesday to Friday, Feb. 8 to 10. The GTCC will be setting up matchmaking appointments for local companies and will have a networking lunch event on Feb. 8. Call Maria Hubert, director of International Affairs, at (813) 276-9462.
• A seminar – Give Your Bottom Line a Jolt!, will be on Friday, Jan. 27, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Offered will be a few simple strategies to reduce your business’ utility costs or want to learn about incentive dollars available to make energy improvements such as equipment changes and insulation upgrades. Discover the importance of a thermal envelope and the key to reducing energy costs related to refrigeration, lighting, HVAC and other equipment. The seminar will be presented by Greg Burkett, senior technical specialist at Progress Energy and by Bert Henderson, energy agent with the University of Florida Extension, at the Pinellas County Business Development Center in the EpiCenter.
