All three incumbent Pinellas County Commissioners have announced intentions to run for another term during the upcoming Nov. 4 elections. And all three will face opponents.
Largo Mayor Patricia Gerard, the only Democrat announced thus far, and State Rep. Ed Hooper are challenging incumbent Norm Roche for the at-large District 2 seat. Roche is currently serving his first term in office.
Longtime incumbent Republican Susan Latvala, who recently announced her engagement, faces as many as five candidates for her seat representing District 4. Republicans Scott Fisher, Timothy Keffalas and Wanda Kimsey, along with Democrat Jack McAdoo and Dustan Showers, who is not affiliated with any party, have all announced their intention to run for Latvala’s job. Latvala, who is currently serving as commission vice-chair, was first elected to serve on the commission in 2000.
Incumbent John Morroni has served District 6 since 2000. He faces fellow Republican Thomas Rask and Libertarian Party of Florida candidate Jack Harris.
Candidates in races where more than one qualify from the same political party will be decided during the Aug. 26 primary. The qualifying period begins at noon June 16 and ends at noon June 20.
