Two organzations announce student scholarships

PINELLAS COUNTY – The Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections and the Florida Association of Realtors have announced the availability of scholarships for area students.
The Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections will award three scholarships this year valued at $1,200 each to eligible students.
Applicants must be registered voters who have lived in Florida at least two years and must be majoring in political science, public administration, business administration, journalism or mass communication at an accredited senior college or university.
Scholarship applications must be returned by March 26 to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections offices at 315 Court St., Room 117, Clearwater; 13001 Starkey Road, Largo; or 501 First Ave. N., St. Petersburg.

The Florida Association of Realtors will offer a total of $106,000 in scholarship awards in its 2006-07 Scholarship and Essay Contest for high school seniors. Individual awards of up to $10,000 are available.
To enter the contest, contestants write a typed, double-spaced essay of 500 words or less, on the topic, “How Does a Realtor Professional Benefit the Community?” Essays could also address topics such as the benefits of home ownership to society, or how the selling of commercial real estate encourages economic growth. The scholarship is in its seventh year and benefits Florida students.
Prize money goes to the first ($5,000), second ($1,500) and third place ($500) essays in each of the association’s 13 districts in the state. The 13 district winning essays will go on to compete for three $5,000 scholarships on a statewide level.
Essays, along with an essay cover form, must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 2, and mailed to the Florida Association of Realtors, 7025 Augusta National Drive, P.O. Box 725025, Orlando, FL 32872-5025.
Application kits and essay cover forms are available through high school guidance offices or can be downloaded from media.living.net.
FAR’s scholarship awards program is open only to high school seniors who reside in the state of Florida and plan on continuing their education at a college, university, technical school or other institution of higher learning.
Children of licensed real estate practitioners are not eligible for contest entry; nor are children whose parents are employed by any local Realtor board or association or by the Florida Association of Realtors.
