The scheduled construction project by the Pinellas County Department of Environment and Infrastructure and Tampa Bay Water is complete as of Monday, Feb. 24.

During this construction period, citizens were asked to curb all unnecessary indoor and outdoor water use. Thanks to the citizens’ efforts and cooperation during this construction, water consumption was reduced by approximately five percent, and the county was able to safely provide 50 million gallons a day to its users.

The project was initially slated for completion on Feb. 28.

The benefits of the upgrades to the water system will include reducing long-term operation and maintenance costs of the system by replacing aging infrastructure in addition to improving water quality management and providing a more reliable, blended supply of drinking water to Pinellas County customers.

While citizens may return to their normal water use activities, they are still encouraged to practice common water conservation methods such as not running water while washing dishes, brushing teeth or shaving, limiting lawn irrigation, repairing leaky fixtures, and installing low-flow faucets and aerators.

For more water-saving, bill-reducing conservation tips, visit www.pinellascounty.org/utilities/conservation.

Citizens are also reminded that Pinellas County is currently following one-day-per-week water restrictions in accordance with the Southwest Florida Water Management District Phase II Water Shortage Order which may expire on March 1. However, it is important to note that as weather conditions change, so do water restrictions.

Citizens should monitor the website www.pinellascounty.org/utilities/water-restrict.htm in the next few days as well as on a regular basis to stay up-to-date on water restrictions and ensure their irrigation systems are operating accordingly.

Pinellas County appreciates customers’ patience, understanding and cooperation during this event.
