NFL Player Louis Murphy Jr. of the Oakland Raiders spoke to participants in the Smart Choices Program and to juvenile inmates at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on Feb. 25.
Murphy, who is a native of St. Petersburg, delivered an inspirational speech focusing on motivation and change to about 89 participants of Smart Choices.
Smart Choices is a modified therapeutic community. It is a 12-week court ordered program for both men and women which provides life-skill instruction.
Classes within the program include drug education, parenting, self-defeating behavior and GED.
Murphy is a wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Murphy quickly established himself as one of the Raiders top receivers. Murphy played four seasons for the Florida Gators, during which time he was part of two national championship teams.
