Pinellas County Justice and Consumer Services Office of Consumer Protection is joining federal, state and local government agencies nationwide to celebrate National Consumer Protection Week 2014, which runs from March 2 to 8.
In recognition, Pinellas County Consumer Protection has planned several events, including public presentations and information booths to provide free resources to help people protect their privacy, manage money and debt, avoid identity theft, understand credit and steer clear of frauds and scams. All events are free and open to the public.
Monday, March 3, Noon to 1 p.m. Health screenings for blood pressure and vision; 1 to 2:30 p.m., presentations by Pinellas County Consumer Protection, Clearwater Police Department and Florida Department of Financial Services. at Clearwater’s Aging Well Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater. There will also be door prizes. Registration is suggested. Call 724-3070.
Tuesday, March 4, 1 to 4 p.m., Information booth with free consumer resources. An investigator will be available to answer consumer-related questions; 3 to 4 p.m., “Protect Your Personal Information-Identity Theft” presentation; at Tarpon Springs Library, 138 East Lemon St., Tarpon Springs
Wednesday, March 5, 10 to 11 a.m., “Deter, Detect, Defend-Against Identity Theft” presentation, at Indian Rocks Beach Library, 1507 Bay Palm Blvd., Indian Rocks Beach.
Thursday, March 6, 11 a.m. to noon, “Smart Shopping” presentation, at Clearwater’s Aging Well Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater.
Friday, March 7, 9 a.m. to noon, Consumer information booth to provide free consumer resources, at Enoch Davis Center, 1111 18th Ave. S., St. Petersburg.
