CLEARWATER - In December 2013, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County partnered with the Pinellas County Tax Collector to begin offering birth certificates at select Tax Collector Offices.
The first Tax Collector Office to offer this service was the 1800 66th St. N., St. Petersburg location in January 2014. During the first month of the program, 273 birth certificates were distributed at this location.
Beginning March 5, birth certificates also are available at the Tax Collector Office located at 29399 U.S. 19 N., Suite 100, in Clearwater. With the addition of this North-County location, birth certificates are now easily accessible from anywhere in Pinellas.
South County residents have access to the Tax Collector Office in St. Petersburg; mid-County residents may visit the DOH-Pinellas location at 8751 Ulmerton Road, Suite 1700, in Largo; and North-County residents now have access to the Tax Collector Office on U.S. 19 North.
“We are excited to announce the launch of the birth certificate program at our North-County Office. This is the second Tax Collector Office to offer this service. Since its launch at our South County Office in January 2014, the birth certificate program has been a huge success. With the addition of our North-County office, residents born in Florida now have easy access to birth certificates throughout Pinellas County. It is a convenient, value added service for Pinellas County residents and we are proud to offer it,” said Diane Nelson, Pinellas County Tax Collector
Since birth records are needed to procure and renew driver licenses, the partnership between DOH-Pinellas and the Tax Collector's Office makes the process easier for the community. Instead of making two trips or waiting for birth records to arrive by mail, residents will be able to complete both transactions at the same Tax Collector Office.
"We always strive to provide excellent service to the community and we are happy to be partnering with the Tax Collector's Office, which also places a high emphasis on customer service," said Dr. Claude M. Dharamraj, DOH-Pinellas' director.
Birth records purchased at DOH-Pinellas, 8751 Ulmerton Road, are $13; for records purchased at Tax Collector Offices, an additional $6.25 convenience fee is added.
