Seminars help small businesses start up shop

PINELLAS COUNTY Local small businesses have opportunities to participate in the competitive process for county contracts through Pinellas Countys Small Business Assistance Program. The classes teach the county purchasing system and receive personal assistance from the purchasing staff to get registered. The schedule of Pinellas County Business Development Center Seminars follows:
How to Start a Business Wednesdays, April 5 through June 28; noon to 2 p.m.
This introductory workshop offers an overview of the information needed to start a business. Learn how to obtain the necessary licenses and permits and how to conduct feasibility studies.
Understanding Entrepreneurship First Thursday of each month, April 6, May 4, June 1; noon to 2 p.m.
Determine if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. Evaluate your business acumen, strengths, weaknesses and readiness for an entrepreneurial endeavor. Discover the challenges and rewards of owning your own business.
Understanding Accounting and Tax Procedures Second Thursday of each month, April 13, May 11, June 8, noon to 2 p.m.
Join John Bryan E.A., to learn what you need to know to manage small business accounting procedures. This seminar is designed to help small business owners understand proper record keeping and accounting procedures to satisfy federal and state requirements for taxes and payroll.
How to Start a Business (Presented in Spanish) Third Tuesday of each month, April 18, May 16, June 20, 10 a.m. to noon. Call (813) 980-2765.
Marketing Your Small Business Third Thursday of each month, April 20, May 18, June 22, noon to 2 p.m.
Whether you need to develop a complete marketing plan or boost sales with a few low-cost marketing tips, this seminar is the overview you need to get started. Learn to determine when, where and how much to spend on your marketing efforts and what works for small businesses.
Financing Your Business and SBA Programs Fourth Thursday of each month, April 27, May 25, and June 22, noon to 2 p.m.
Lunelle Siegel, of Allianace Financial Capital, will advise how to obtain financing from the sources best-suited to your unique business requirements. Robert Chavaria from the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide an overview of SBA programs and services including loan and guarantee programs. Chavaria also is available for private counseling sessions following the seminar or by appointment.
Intellectual Property Law May 9, noon to 2 p.m.
