Sheriff’s office gets bike donation
Article published on Wednesday, March 29, 2006
PINELLAS COUNTY – The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Community Policing Unit recently received a donation to put more bicycles on patrol.

The donation, coming from AMSCOT Financial, was a $1,600 check.

The check will buy the unit a new bicycle and some bicycle equipment for community policing deputies that patrol communities managed by the Pinellas County Housing Authority.

The check presentation was made March 16, at the AMSCOT Financial at 11156 Starkey Road. On hand to receive the check were deputies Cheko Carter and Mark Murray. Representing AMSCOT Financial was director of community relations Erika Harris.

Sgt. Mike Leiner, supervisor of the Central District Community Policing Unit, was grateful for the donation.

“Bicycles allow community policing deputies more access to the public and are a highly visible means to maintain community relationships. We use them for an assortment of jobs,” Leiner said in a news release.
