AARP to lobby in Tallahassee
Article published on Wednesday, March 29, 2006
PINELLAS COUNTY – A group of county residents will meet with legislators and talk about AARP’s 2006 legislative positions in Tallahassee on AARP Lobby Day on March 30.

Ron and Barbara Getz, Fred and Pat Hammesfahr, Lois Herron, Judith Kavourgias, Vollie Riskin and Tom and Gilda Simpson will join about 80 AARP volunteers visiting the Capitol to educate legislators on issues such as stopping a state plan to force seniors into Medicaid managed-care long-term care, fighting phone and utility rate hikes, protecting consumers from identity theft, ensuring adequate staffing for nursing home residents and helping Floridians survive and recover from hurricanes.

AARP Lobby Day is a statewide effort by AARP members to let legislators know that they care about and support AARP’s legislative priorities.

Florida legislators are engaging in several critical debates during the 2006 legislative session. It’s important to let them know now what citizens think before proposals are passed. Contact Kathy Marma at 592-8004 or e-mail kmarma@aarp.org.
