CLEARWATER - Pinellas County is reaching out to help the family of 2-year-old Ireland Nugent, who was seriously injured in a tragic accident at her home in Palm Harbor the night of April 10.
Her father accidentally ran over the child with a lawn mower when she fell in his path. He was traveling in reverse at the time and didn’t see her. She lost both her feet at the ankle and one hand was injured.
She is undergoing treatment at Tampa General Hospital, where she is listed in serious condition.
Ireland’s father works for Pinellas County in the real estate management department, and his fellow employees have stepped up to show their support for the family in their time of need. An account has been set up to “accommodate the outpouring of support for the family,” according to a press release from County Communications.
“Since the accident, many area residents and Pinellas County employees have asked how they can help the family during this stressful and emotional time,” the press release said.
The Pinellas Federal Credit Union has established a special fund in Ireland Nugent’s name. Checks payable to the Pinellas Federal Credit Union with a note “Ireland Nugent Fund” in the memo field can be delivered to any branch location or mailed to Pinellas Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 2300, Largo, FL 33779-2300.
Branch locations are available at www.pinellasfcu.org, or call 727-586-4422 during regular business hours.
The fund set up by the Pinellas Federal Credit Union will provide a way for contributions to be applied where they’re needed most by the family.
