Women voters league seeks president
Article published on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 |
PINELLAS COUNTY – The League of Women Voters of North Pinellas County needs to elect a president and treasurer to continue to exist. The positions are currently vacant and the nominating committee has been unable to find someone for these positions.
Its next meeting will discuss whether this league can continue to exist, according to the April newsletter.
The meeting will be April 26 with registration at 9:30 a.m., business meeting at 10 a.m., and a luncheon at noon. It will be at the Carlouel Yacht Club, 1091 Eldorado Ave., Clearwater Beach.
Reservations are necessary and should be received no later than April 19. Send a check for $20 to LWV of North Pinellas County to Susie Rodenbeck, 1681 Sparkling Court, Dunedin, FL 34558. Those wishing to attend only the business meeting may send $5.
The league is in crisis, according to the newsletter, because it needs new leadership and new members. It will discuss the following options at the April 26 meeting:
• Become a member-at-large unit. These are members of the state league and may have meetings, do voters service work and participate in various league activities. Dues are paid directly to League of Women Voters of Florida. Someone in leadership will still be required.
• Form a steering committee to lead the local league with few changes in operation other than the formality of officers, etc. Someone in leadership will still be required.
• Merge with the St. Petersburg Area League, either to form one league or as a unit of the St. Petersburg league.
