ST. PETERSBURG - Darnell Grisby, director of Policy Development and Research from the American Public Transportation Association, will speak to the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority Board at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 23.

Grisby will speak prior to the PSTA's regular board meeting at 6 p.m. in the PSTA Board Room, 3201 Scherer Drive in St. Petersburg. The public is invited to attend.

The largest generation in U.S. History and the most multi-modal could be a game changer for public transportation and America’s transportation network as a whole.

The millennial generation, people 18 to 34, were the subject of a recent study released by APTA.

“Millennials and Mobility” was a two phased approach to gather both qualitative and qualitative data from this group through telephone interviews and online surveys. In general, the study shows that millennials are leading a trend of Americans who are returning to walkable cities and suburbs with multiple transportation options that included vibrant public transit.

“Now is the time to be pro-active in creating a multi-modal transportation system to address this generation’s demands and lifestyles,” said APTA President and CEO Michael Melaniphy.

Peter Varga, APTA Chair and CEO adds, “Public transportation is the backbone of a multi-modal transportation system because it provides the opportunity to multi-task and socialize online while traveling. We should encourage the creation of digital tools.”

Grisby is one of the nation’s leading authorities in this subject matter will be educating us about “Millennials and Mobility.”

PSTA CEO Brad Miller said, “This information is critical to future of Pinellas County and entire Tampa Bay region. The implementation of the Greenlight Pinellas Plan is on the horizon and this information will ensure we are on the right track with our efforts.”
