CLEARWATER - World War II veterans will be departing from the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport for daylong visits to Washington D.C. and the war memorials.
Eighty veterans will participate in the 13th-15th honor flights, chartered on Allegiant Air and hosted at PIE on May 6, 27 and June 24.
“The airport has been hosting Honor Flights since 2011 and we are proud of the strong community support that has been shown to our veterans,” said Airport Director Noah Lagos. “We are honored to host these events and hope to see the many organizations and individuals continue to come out to celebrate the veterans welcome home to St. Pete-Clearwater.”
“Honor Flight is so grateful to all our veterans and we honor their service to our country through each of our Honor Flight missions,” said Beverly Frey, president of Honor Flight of West Central Florida. “Our efforts would not be possible without the wonderful support of St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport and Allegiant Air who help to make each flight a success.”
Frey invites the public to come to the airport to greet the veterans and volunteers who travel with them at about 8 p.m. after each flight.
“The Welcome Home celebration is open to the public and various groups, military and government leaders will be at the airport to greet the veterans,” she said.
Free parking will be available to attend the welcome home event sponsored by Honor Flight of West Central Florida along with courtesy parking provided by the airport for the Honor Flight Veterans.
