May 17 Hurricane Expo offers valuable resources

LARGO - The 2008 Hurricane Expo is Saturday, May 17, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive.
This will be an exciting day of important information for the community. Learn all about the valuable resources
that are available to you from the city and the county by visiting exhibitors with information on emergency assistance.
All the professionals and experts will be at the event during the day to answer your “what do I do?“ questions.
- Ask questions and get answers on insurance issues from the Florida Department of Financial Services.
- Find out how you can get connected to government resources through County Connection.
- Visit with the city of Largo Fire and Rescue and Emergency Management teams to learn how communities can be prepared through CERT.
- Get tips from the experts at Pinellas County Utilities on how to prepare for problems with water, sewage and waste.
- The Department of Consumer Affairs will tell you what to do if you are the victim of fraud or non-ethical business transactions.
- Fine out about the new laws regarding pets during a storm from Pinellas County Animal Services.
- Get tips from the American Red Cross and United Way.
- Meteorologists from BayNews 9 will be available to answer questions.
Talk with the retail experts who can help you make your decision about which products and services to buy.
There will be many displays from wind resistant windows, to ways of bracing your garage doors and a way to
permanently document your homes’ possessions, alternative energy resources and new products and ways to
“board up”.
Attendees will be able to register for door prizes from a variety of businesses.

County education series
Pinellas County Communications and Emergency Management department are teaming up to help residents prepare through a series of free information sessions. Member libraries of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative will host the sessions that include how-to tips on putting together a survival kit, planning ahead, preparing to evacuate, basic hurricane information and more. The schedule is:
