ST. PETERSBURG - A youth softball coach in the St. Petersburg area was arrested Thursday afternoon on two charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim under age 16.
According to a report from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, the victim is a 15-year-old female known to the victim.
Detectives began their investigation after it was disclosed that the suspect had sexual contact with the victim on three different occasions between July 2013 and January 2014 at a private residence in St. Petersburg.
Through various investigative techniques, detectives identified the suspect as 28-year-old James C. Woods. Detectives assigned to the Crimes Against Children Unit met with Woods May 22, 2014 and he reportedly admitted to the allegations.
He was transported to the Pinellas County Jail without further incident. Bond was set at $40,000.
Detectives said that Woods was a youth softball coach in the St. Petersburg area and had frequent contact with children. Detectives believe that there may be more victims.
