Free summer meals, snacks program set for Pinellas kids

PINELLAS COUNTY – Free healthy, balanced meals and snacks will be provided to children 18 years old and younger during the summer when school breakfasts and lunch are not available.

The summer feedings at school sites provide meals to all children in the immediate vicinity and those enrolled in summer programs. There are additional non-school sites that provide free meals.

• Dunedin Elementary, 900 Union St. – June 23 to July 25, breakfast 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

• Eisenhower Elementary, 2800 Drew St., Clearwater – June 10 to Aug. 5, breakfast 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• High Point Elementary, 5921 150th Ave. N., Clearwater – June 23 to July 25, lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• Nina Harris School, 6000 70th Ave. N., Pinellas Park – June 23 to July 25, lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• San Jose Elementary, 1670 San Helen Drive, Dunedin – June 10 to Aug. 5, breakfast 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• Southern Oak Elementary, 9101 Walsingham Road, Largo – June 10 to Aug. 5, breakfast 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

• Rotary Club at High Point Elementary, 5921 150th Ave. N, Clearwater – June 10 to Aug. 5, lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., snack 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Local teens win awards

PINELLAS COUNTY – Local students have won the national Scholastic Art and Writing Awards which will be presented June 5 at the National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The awards recognize creative teenagers and offer scholastic opportunities for graduating seniors.

• American Visions Award for art – Austin Eguia, Seminole High, for “Sweet Feet,” digital imagery.

• Gold Award for art – Slawek Kozub, Countryside High, for “Polish Woods,” painting.

• Silver award for writing – Samantha Green, Madeira Beach Middle, for “A Darkling in the Night,” science fiction/fantasy writing.
