LARGO – Construction is under way on a new 163-acre park in the incorporated Largo and Clearwater area.
Eagle Lake Park is expected to be completed in late 2009 at an estimated cost of $12.9 million, county officials said.
The main entrance is on Keene Road. It lies between Belleair and McMullen roads on the north and south. To the west is Lake Avenue.
Park amenities will include 2.5 miles of paved trails, 1.7 miles of shell foot paths, 293 parking spaces, a playground, dog park, three pedestrian entrances, five picnic shelters, 1,774 feet of boardwalks over wetlands, 4,250 feet of boardwalk viewing platforms, five vehicle bridges and 3,153 native plants.
Stemming from the public’s request, the main entrance of the park was moved 700 feet south of the Oakdale residential area. Trails on the west and northwest were moved farther away from the property boundaries and other proposed amenities were reduced, such as parking spaces, restrooms and picnic shelters.
