Article published on Thursday, June 5, 2008
PINELLAS COUNTY – Pinellas County seniors who retook the reading and math Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test performed better than the state average and half of the other large counties.
Students in 11th and 12th grades and adult students take the retake exam, but the state reporting focuses on seniors who need to pass these exams to graduate this term.
More than 100 fewer seniors took the reading retake exam this year compared to 2007, and 19 percent passed. This is the same percentage as last year.
Comparably, 16 percent of seniors statewide passed the reading retake exam and 32 percent passed the math exam retake. In reading, Pinellas scored the highest percentage of passing students than all six of the other large school districts. In math, Pinellas tied with Hillsborough County with 33 percent of seniors passing the retake. Orange and Duval counties scored slightly higher at 34 and 36 percent.
