Article published on Tuesday, June 10, 2008
CLEARWATER - A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office employee assigned to the Detention and Corrections Bureau was arrested June 10 for doctor shopping and trafficking in a controlled substance.

Detectives said Diane Louis Ferron, 40, was arrested at 3 p.m. while on duty as the assistant inmate records supervisor at the Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater.

According to detectives, the investigation began on Jan. 29 after information was received alleging suspicious prescription medication activity involving Ferron. Detectives said an investigation revealed that Ferron was requesting and receiving treatment from more than one doctor or dentist with the intent to obtain prescription medication (Hydrocodone) that she was not entitled to.

The investigation continues and additional charges in other jurisdictions are pending.

Ferron is a non-sworn member of the sheriff’s office and she is assigned to the Inmate Records Division at the Pinellas County Jail. She has been employed by the sheriff’s office since 1990.

Per agency policy investigators from the Administrative Investigations Unit were notified of the arrest and Ferron has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the completion of an administrative investigation.
