Challenge grant to benefit children with cancer
Article published on Wednesday, June 21, 2006
PINELLAS COUNTY – Faces of Courage Inc., is a Tampa-based organization founded to provide no cost, life enriching day outings and overnight camps for kids, women and families touched by cancer.

More than 1,500 families have enrolled in the program. In 2005 they served more than 700 campers using the services of 600 volunteers.

The Ellsworth and Mabel Simmons Foundation has offered to match all donations or fundraising proceeds up to $10,000 made to Faces of Courage Foundation during the next three months.

Mabel Simmons is credited with being the first woman to operate a gladiola farm in Florida, which at one time was the largest flower producer in the state. She not only developed gladiolas that sprouted earlier, she also discovered ways to protect the sensitive plants from frost and disease.
