The Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority Board of Directors unanimously selected Don Skelton to be its interim executive director. Skelton replaces Bob Clifford who has resigned to join engineering firm Parsons Brinckerhoff.
The Board also unanimously expressed its appreciation for Clifford's years of service as TBARTA's first and sole executive director and wished him well in his future pursuits.
Skelton has a long career in transportation planning and programs. He served as secretary of District 7 Office of the Florida Department of Transportation from 2005 until 2012. During that time, he served on the TBARTA board of directors as "ex officio" member, and was instrumental in providing support for the development of TBARTA's Master Transportation Plan. Presently, vice president at H.W. Lochner providing transportation engineering services for the Tampa Bay region and Central Florida.
Ronnie Duncan, chairman of the TBARTA Board, said he was delighted that Skelton has agreed to once again step in and support TBARTA.
"Don was there when we started and played a major role in our early success. There could not be better person to serve in this capacity as we work through the process of selecting a permanent executive director," Duncan said.
TBARTA is the regional transportation authority, which provides regional transportation planning and connectivity of people and freight throughout the seven county Tampa Bay region.

TBARTA was created by the Florida Legislature in 2007 to plan and develop a multimodal transportation system that will connect the seven counties of the Tampa Bay region - Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota.
