CLEARWATER – The Board of County Commissioners whittled the list of applicants for county administrator down to four during a July 1 workshop meeting.
According to Peggy Rowe, director of personnel, Waters Consulting Group submitted 54 resumes for the job and, after careful examination, the board picked four.
Rowe said the commissioners had not yet spoken with any of the candidates in person. She said face-to-face interviews would be scheduled between the final four and the commissioners and staff for the end of July.
The names on the list are: Mark Woodard, of Tampa, currently employed as chief of staff and assistant Pinellas County administrator; Robert S. LaSala, of Lancaster, Calif., currently an independent consultant; Bruce Loucks, of Punta Gorda, Charlotte County administrator; and Peter J. Crichton, of Scarborough, Maine, Cumberland County manager.
Rowe said the commissioners would meet again in a workshop, probably on Aug. 7, to decide if they wanted to schedule additional interviews with any or all of the candidates.
“They won’t necessarily decide a final candidate at that meeting,” she said.
The plan calls for the hiring of a new administrator to take place in August.
County Commissioners have been searching for a new administrator since Steve Spratt resigned in September after a grand jury investigation of a land deal between the county and Property Appraiser Jim Smith.
Former county administrator Fred Marquis has been serving as interim administrator since Oct. 1.
