PINELLAS COUNTY - Susan Latvala, county commissioner, is the newly installed president of the Florida Association of Counties, a not-for-profit association that has been representing the interests of Florida's 67 counties since 1929.
Latvala and the other members of the 2006-2007 executive committee were sworn in during the association's annual conference in Collier County in late June. More than 250 county commissioners and staff attended the event.
Latvala pledged to promote and advance the FAC's mission and to uphold the integrity of the association's officers, directors and members. The other members of the executive committee are Orange County Commissioner Teresa Jacobs as president-elect; Suwannee County Commissioner Randy Hatch as first vice president and Alachua County Commissioner Rodney Long as second vice president. All positions are one-year terms.
Among other duties, members of the executive committee oversee the administration of and provide policy guidance to the association's executive director; adopt policies regarding the operation of the association and the conduct of association affairs and recommend an annual budget to the board of directors.
