Sunstar receives excellence award

PINELLAS COUNTY – Sunstar, Pinellas County Emergency Medical Services, was awarded re-accreditation as an Emergency Medical Dispatch Center of Excellence by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch. Sunstar is one of only 12 such centers in the state and one of 34 worldwide to be awarded this distinction.
The criteria for re-accreditation includes compliance with the Medical Priority Dispatch System, the world’s most widely used 911-type instruction and dispatch system. Earning the accreditation is voluntary and involves completing a detailed self-study and analysis.
The NAED is a not-for-profit organization comprised of three academies with related programs and standards for emergency, medical, fire and police dispatching. It’s the industry’s leading certification and standard-setting body with more than 30,000 members in 20 countries.
Pinellas County EMS was established in 1980 by an act of the Florida Legislature. All ambulance service in Pinellas County is provided by a single contracted ambulance known as Sunstar.
