Diane Nelson is sworn in as Florida Tax Collectors Association president by Judge Nelly Khouzam, Florida Second District Court of Appeal.
ORLANDO - Pinellas County Tax Collector Diane Nelson was installed as president of the Florida Tax Collectors Association Aug. 28 at the statewide organization’s annual conference in Orlando.
Nelson, selected by her fellow tax collectors for the leadership role, has served on the association’s executive committee since 2011, serving as first and second vice president.
“I am honored to serve my fellow tax collectors as president of their association,” Nelson said. “Our tax collectors today face many challenges, particularly when it comes to adding new driver license services that have historically been handled by the state. I look forward to working with my colleagues to create solutions that will help us continue to provide outstanding service to our citizens.”
As president, Nelson is responsible for directing the organization’s strategic planning and working with other tax collectors to build consensus on legislative and policy issues. She will represent the association before the Florida Legislature on items with statewide implications and serve as a liaison to various state departments, including the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Department of Revenue.
“One of the reasons the people of Pinellas County keep returning Diane Nelson to office is the honest, responsive, courteous and prompt service they receive,” said Ken van Assenderp, general counsel for FTCA. “As the newly elected president of the Florida Tax Collectors Association, Diane will lead her colleagues to new and exciting ways to serve the people of Florida.”
Nelson’s term as president runs until September 2014. The FTCA Executive Leadership Committee also includes: Brevard County Tax Collector Lisa Cullen, first vice president; Highlands County Tax Collector Eric Zwayer, second vice president; Santa Rosa County Tax Collector Stan Nichols, treasurer; and Walton County Tax Collector Rhonda Skipper, secretary.
