CLEARWATER - Students who serve on the Pinellas County Youth Advisory Committee invite high school students who live in Pinellas County to attend an open house on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 2:30 p.m., in the fifth-floor Commissioners Conference Room in the Pinellas County Courthouse, 315 Court St. in downtown Clearwater.
The open house will provide teens with information on the YAC and the ways that they can participate in local government. Refreshments will be served.
The Youth Advisory Committee, established in 2001, was developed as a vehicle for young people to provide input and assistance to the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners. The committee assists the commission by helping to identify the needs of young people locally, to organize youth-based activities that benefit the local community, to suggest services needed by young people within Pinellas County and to become active participants, with their adult counterparts, in county programs.
Last year, YAC members joined Pinellas County Commissioner Nancy Bostock and launched Teens Behind the Scenes, a program that gives high school students a behind-the-scenes look at several county facilities to see how county services are provided. This successful program is expected to return in the coming year. Other projects will be planned for this school year.
To RSVP for the open house, or for more information on the Youth Advisory Committee, call 582-2656 or visit www.pinellascounty.org/yac.
