LARGO – Thirty mid-Pinellas members of Organizing for Action took to busy West Bay Drive in Largo the afternoon of Oct. 10 to encourage Florida residents to enroll in the health insurance protection of the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.
The rally site was near the entrance to the Largo Medical Center. The participants also distributed about 500 pamphlets to interested passersby.
Affordable Care Act enrollment, designed for an estimated 45 million Americans who do not have insurance coverage, began nationwide Oct. 1. The first insurance exchanges, established to help individuals and families sign up for the multiple healthcare options, will continue through March 31, 2014.
However, for enrollees to be covered by Jan. 1, 2014, they must be enrolled by Dec. 15.
