Pinellas County residents turned in nearly 927 pounds of unwanted and expired prescription medications at various locations during Operation Medicine Cabinet Oct. 26.
Clearwater Police Department collected the most, 659 pounds. Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office took in 205 pounds from three locations, and Pinellas Park Police Department collected nearly 63 pounds.
The Oct. 26 event was the 10th installment of Operation Medicine Cabinet. It coincided with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Take Back Day. Operation Medicine Cabinet began in May 2009. Events are scheduled semi-annually. Nearly 13,625 pounds of medications have been collected as of May of 2013.
