The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and St. Petersburg Police collected 425 pounds of outdated or unused prescription drugs Nov. 14 in the second Operation Medicine Cabinet event in the county.
The drugs were collected at seven drop-off sites in the county in order to help curtail the illegal use of these drugs and the potentially unsafe disposal of them.
“Any time we can reduce the amount of prescription drugs which could be stolen or illegally used is a win-win situation for law enforcement and the community,” said Pinellas Sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Zsido in a press release. “We appreciate the assistance received from our partners in this effort.”
Another Operation Medicine Cabinet event is planned for the spring of 2010.
