CLEARWATER – Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an inmate about noon Dec. 18 after he walked away from a work crew detail on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office Johnathan Ray Jones, 29, of St. Petersburg was assigned to an inmate work crew conducting a clean-up detail at the baseball field at 4145 34th St. N. in St. Petersburg (behind the VFW), when he walked away from the work detail that was being supervised by jail staff.
The next day, deputies received a tip that led them to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Jones was a passenger on 58th Street just north of 54th Avenue in Kenneth City. Jones was arrested on a warrant for escape and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
Jones was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on drug related charges Dec. 3, 2013 and was in the process of serving a 364-day sentence. Records show he is a non-violent offender and had no prior history of discipline at the jail. His arrest record shows multiple drug related charges dating back to 2003.
