TALLAHASSEE -The Florida Division of Emergency Management announced the finalists for the 2014 Severe Weather Awareness Week Video PSA Contest. Three finalists were selected for middle school and high school divisions, including Emma McPhilamy and Skyler Negron from Oak Grove Middle School in Clearwater. The title of their PSA video is Safety Kits.
FDEM is encouraging the public to play a role in this year’s 2014 Severe Weather Awareness Week Video PSA contest. Through Feb. 28, Floridians will be able to vote for their favorite video PSA. To vote, go to the Kids Get A Plan Facebook page, www.facebook.com/KidsGetAPlan. The six finalist videos are available under the “video” section. Floridians can vote for their favorite by “liking” the video on the page.
“Severe weather can occur at any time in Florida. Severe Weather Awareness Week is an opportunity for the Division to remind Floridians to be prepared,” said FDEM Director Bryan W. Koon. “I want to thank every student who submitted entries to this year’s contest. I look forward to seeing the winners as selected by the public.”
The 2014 Severe Weather Awareness Week campaign works to promote preparedness among all Floridians for all types of hazards. Each of the finalists will receive a prize and winning submissions from each category will be professionally reproduced and incorporated into the Division’s 2014 public education campaign.
