LARGO – Largo High School announced its valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2012-2013 school year in an informal ceremony March 1.
The families of Steven Higginbotham and Adriana Wilson were invited to watch Largo High School Principal Brad Finkbiner award each with a certificate of recognition in the media center of the school.
“We are proud of the accomplishments of these two outstanding scholars, and we look forward to seeing them represent Largo High School in their postsecondary endeavors,” Finkbiner stated in a release announcing the awards.
Photos of the students will be displayed in the school’s Academic Hall of Fame.
Valedictorian
Higginbotham is Largo High School’s top scholar with a weighted grade-point average of 4.74. During his academic career, Higginbotham enrolled in the most rigorous courses that Largo High School has to offer including 10 different Advanced Placement courses and a variety of honors courses.
He most will likely attend the University of South Florida in the fall and is interested in studying engineering.
Higginbotham is enrolled in the Exploring Careers and Education in Leadership, or ExCEL, magnet program at the school, and he is also the Captain of the Academic Team. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society and was a district champion tennis player during his sophomore year.
He has been recognized in annual awards ceremonies for his achievement in Chemistry I, Advanced Placement Chemistry and for scholarship among ExCEL magnet students. He also has volunteered at the RCS food bank in Clearwater.
Salutatorian
Wilson is the school’s salutatorian for the year. After enrolling in seven different Advanced Placement courses and a variety of Honors courses, Wilson maintains a 4.70 weighted grade- point average.
She is planning to attend the University of Florida in the fall where she will enroll in the pre-med program.
Wilson is the National Honor Society president; vice president of the Spanish National Honor Society; principal violinist for the Largo High School Orchestra; secretary for the Rho Kappa club, a history honor society, and the treasurer for the Science club. She is a member of the Quill and Scroll Honor Society as well as the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Wilson has participated in the Pinellas Youth Symphony Orchestra, and she was a part of the All-State Orchestra for the last three years and the All-County Orchestra for the last five years. She has been a Doorways/Take Stock in Children scholarship recipient since she was in the third grade. She also has received the Matt J. Williams and Carwise awards.
