LARGO – Informational open houses are planned for students interested in enrolling in Pinellas County Schools and St. Petersburg College’s newest collaborative – the Elite Educator Program.
The four-year teacher training course seeks to attract high school graduates who have accelerated academically, can obtain an elementary education degree within four years and commit to working in Pinellas County Schools after graduation.
• Thursday, July 31, 5:30 to 7 p.m., SPC Clearwater campus, Ethics and Social Science Building, Room 104, 2465 Drew St., Clearwater.
Pinellas County Schools plans to distinguish the district from others in the Tampa Bay area by offering students who successfully complete the four-year SPC Elite Educator Program with monetary incentives in exchange for a successful internship with the district and ultimately employment once an elementary education degree is achieved.
The program will place an emphasis on science, reading, technology, mathematics, child development, as well as teaching children with exceptionalities and English Language Learners. The Elite Educator Program is one of several initiatives the district has employed to attract and retain quality teachers, including recently increasing the starting salary for new teachers.
To enroll in the Elite Educator Program, contact SPC College of Education at 712-5888 or 712-5410 or visit www.spcollege.edu/elite.
