Dunedin High celebrates 50 years

DUNEDIN - Dunedin High kicks off its 50th Anniversary Celebration with Superintendent Julie Janssen; School Board members Peggy O’ Shea and Robin Wikle, Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers, Dunedin Chamber of Commerce President Lynn Wargo and district administrators, welcoming parents and students back to school, Monday, Aug. 22, from 6:30-7:30 a.m.

Dunedin High School opened its doors Sept. 1961, and the 50th Anniversary Celebration will include events that will take place throughout the 2011-12 school year. Some of the scheduled events are:

• Sept. 27 - Homecoming Pageant

• Sept. 28 - Homecoming Parade/Powderpuff Game

• Sept. 29 - Student/Faculty Powderpuff Game

• Sept. 30 - Tailgate Party, Homecoming Football Game/Dance

• Oct. 1 - Homecoming Dance

• Oct. 22 - Dunedin Falcon Family Fun Run, 7:30pm, Dunedin Causeway, after-race party at Island Outpost

• Nov. 11 - Veteran’s Day Celebration

• Nov. 25 - Alumni Homecoming, DHS Gymnasium

• Dec. 10 - Holiday Parade/Old-Fashioned Christmas, Downtown Dunedin

• Dec. 15 - DHS Holiday Event (Band/Chorus/Drama)

• Feb. 21, 2012 - Mardi Gras Parade, Downtown Dunedin

• May 25-26, 2012 - DHS Class of 1962 50th Reunion

• May 26, 2012 - Alumni Brunch and Open House, Alumni Pub Crawl

Alumni are invited to join the Sept. 30 homecoming activities which include a tour of the school, a tailgate party from 5-7 p.m. and the football game.
