Dunedin High celebrates 50 years

DUNEDIN - Dunedin High kicks off its 50th Anniversary Celebration with Superintendent Julie Janssen; School Board members Peggy O Shea and Robin Wikle, Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers, Dunedin Chamber of Commerce President Lynn Wargo and district administrators, welcoming parents and students back to school, Monday, Aug. 22, from 6:30-7:30 a.m.

Dunedin High School opened its doors Sept. 1961, and the 50th Anniversary Celebration will include events that will take place throughout the 2011-12 school year. Some of the scheduled events are:

Sept. 27 - Homecoming Pageant

Sept. 28 - Homecoming Parade/Powderpuff Game

Sept. 29 - Student/Faculty Powderpuff Game

Sept. 30 - Tailgate Party, Homecoming Football Game/Dance

Oct. 1 - Homecoming Dance

Oct. 22 - Dunedin Falcon Family Fun Run, 7:30pm, Dunedin Causeway, after-race party at Island Outpost

Nov. 11 - Veterans Day Celebration

Nov. 25 - Alumni Homecoming, DHS Gymnasium

Dec. 10 - Holiday Parade/Old-Fashioned Christmas, Downtown Dunedin

Dec. 15 - DHS Holiday Event (Band/Chorus/Drama)

Feb. 21, 2012 - Mardi Gras Parade, Downtown Dunedin

May 25-26, 2012 - DHS Class of 1962 50th Reunion

May 26, 2012 - Alumni Brunch and Open House, Alumni Pub Crawl

Alumni are invited to join the Sept. 30 homecoming activities which include a tour of the school, a tailgate party from 5-7 p.m. and the football game.
