With school bells ringing across Pinellas County, teachers are encouraged to welcome students to the academic year by participating in a fun 2010 Lakes Appreciation Month Poster Contest.
The contest is sponsored by the North American Lake Management Society. Kelli Levy, from the Pinellas County Department of Environmental Management, is serving as the president of the Florida Lake Management Society, which is a NALMS affiliate.
Students in grades four through eight may participate. The student winner will have his or her poster displayed throughout the country and receive a special prize. According to Levy, poster themes should focus on any lake and watershed issue and may include topics such as pollution, aquatic invasive species, aquatic life, lake ecology and lake health.
Posters should be no larger than 18 inches by 24 inches in size and should be in a style that is easily reproduced. Posters must be received by NALMS no later than Oct. 15. For more details about the contest including mailing instructions, teachers may call 603-271-2248 or visit www.nalms.org.
