Douglas L. Jamerson Jr. Elementary Center for Mathematics and Engineering has been named a Nationally Certified Magnet School by Magnet Schools of America.
Magnet Schools of America is the national association for magnet and theme-based schools. Jamerson Elementary was one of the first 55 schools in the nation to become nationally certified and will be recognized at a ceremony at Magnet Schools of America’s 36th National Conference in Chicago, Illinois, in April 2018.
To become nationally certified, Jamerson Elementary submitted a detailed application and participated in a rigorous evaluation conducted by the National Institute for Magnet School Leadership. This included providing specific examples of how the school is promoting diversity, closing the achievement gap, integrating a theme-based curriculum throughout the school, and encouraging parent and community involvement.
Jamerson Elementary has received a number of awards in recent years. The school has earned MSA’s School of Excellence Award and has been recognized as a National PTA School of Excellence and as the top Elementary STEM program in the nation by the Future of Education Technology Conference. Jamerson Elementary has also been recognized as a Five Star School by the Florida Department of Education for showing exemplary community involvement.
