ST. PETE BEACH – District 3 City Commissioner Marvin Shavlan has announced his resignation effective Jan. 15 due to the sale of his home in St. Pete Beach.
He had previously decided not to seek re-election in March. Two candidates have qualified for the position and will be on the ballot – Gregory Premer and James Douglas Anderson.
As provided in the city charter, the City Commission must fill the vacant position on an interim basis until the next regular election. Anyone who has lived in District 3 for the previous 12 months is eligible.
Persons interested need to submit a letter of interest and any supporting documents to the city clerk’s office by Jan. 10.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in the City Commission chambers at city hall.
