TREASURE ISLAND – The Treasure Island Art Guild is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a new exhibit at the T.I. Community Center through Feb. 28.
“Frank Saso, successful in both fine art and commercial, captures in acrylic, an icy winter in ‘The Sanctuary,’ a warm day for golf in ‘The Good Life,’ and fog-shrouded ships in ‘Mist Over Tampa Bay.’ Frank’s award-winning versatility continues with a delightful, nostalgic work in graphite, depicting the many faces of ‘W.C. Fields,’ master comedian of old,” a spokesman for the guild said.
“Our mother-daughter artists, Muriel and Judy Gouze, show contrasting styles. Muriel paints with great expertise in traditional fashion, as shown in her beautiful watercolor, ‘Oriental Still Life.’ Judy’s work, on the other hand, is more contemporary with cheerful bold colors. Particularly enjoyable is her self-portrait in oil, ‘Color and Me,’ ” the guild said.
“Former guild president Fred Wilder offers a striking oil, ‘Waiting and Watching,’ with patient deer standing in the snowy forest. His three watercolors demonstrate Fred’s wide interests: ‘YMCA,’ a colorful picnic scene; ‘For Heaven’s Sake,’ with the top stories of buildings resting on banks of clouds and a delightful ‘Flower Garden.’ ”
Call the recreation center at 547-4575 for hours of the center, located on Park and 106th avenues.
