Parking pay stations to be installed

TREASURE ISLAND – It could soon cost a few bucks to park your car at four city parking lots in Treasure Island.

City officials recently purchased nine pay by space parking pay stations that will be installed at four parking lots.

Those locations are:

• Community Center parking lot on Park Place.

• Newly-acquired lot at Gulf Boulevard and 104th Avenue.

• Lot No. 2, West Gulf Boulevard between 77th and 79th avenues.

• Lot No. 3, West Gulf Boulevard, between 81st and 82nd avenues.

City staff will mark each space with numbers to enter into the pay station when payment is made. The stations will accept coins and credit cards, Public Works Director Jim Murphy said.

The question remaining is how much to charge per hour.

After surveying nearby communities, city officials determined $1.50 per hour would be an equitable amount for the three lots located on the Gulf. City staff recommends $1 per hour for the Community Center.
