TREASURE ISLAND – City commissioners voted unanimously Feb. 11 to extend the city of Treasure Island’s contract for another three years with Clark Sales Display of Tavares for Christmas decorations.
Treasure Island has used Clark Sales Display the past five years for holiday decorations on 100 utility poles. The cost of the lease was $16,000 per year, which will remain the same in the contract extension, which goes through 2016.
The original contract carried a provision for a continuance option, which Clark has agreed to accept.
The city will continue to pay Clark $160 per pole for the lease, installation, removal and storage of the decorations.
Treasure Island is one of 13 communities in Pinellas County that have deals with Clark for Christmas decorations. The others are St. Pete Beach, Gulfport, Madeira Beach, Redington Beach, North Redington Beach, Redington Shores, Belleair Beach, Clearwater, Dunedin, Tarpon Springs, Largo and St. Petersburg.
In other action, commissioners:
• Approved a resolution making 20 spaces on the east side of the police department parking lot public parking spaces from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday; and Friday at 5 p.m. to Monday at 6 a.m. Persons parking in the lot must have a Treasure Island parking pass. Owners who park their cars in the lot will do so at their own risk with no liability to the city. The change took place primarily to help residents of La Bella Vita condominiums next door with additional parking options.
• Approved a temporary license agreement with the Florida Board of Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund to cover a March 8 benefit car show on the beach.
